I recently had a very interesting undercover assignment in a well-known history museum. Over the last year, a number of valuable artifacts had been stolen from the museum. All signs pointed to it being an inside job.
Since we weren’t sure who might be involved, we needed to get an agent undercover in the museum without alerting the museum staff at all. The solution we came up with was for me to pose as a retired history professor leading independent tours of the museum. This way, I would have a reason to spend pretty much all week at the museum without anyone getting suspicious.
We customized my cellphone to work as the tour guide microphone. I had a headset plugged into the phone which was then connected by Bluetooth to all the guests’ headsets. Thankfully, all buttons and ports are easily accessible with the Galaxy A6 Rugged Case I use.
Besides working as the tour guide microphone, the phone was also set to connect via Bluetooth to our team of agents monitoring the museum. Using coded phrases, I could alert the team to suspicious looking museum guests or employees.
I decided to use a Galaxy A6 holster case. I was able to clip my phone on my belt using the holster with swivel belt clip included with the case. It was a great way to fit the look of a real tour guide. The case comes with 3 colors to choose from but I picked up the blue one to match my tour guide outfit.
The phone was a much better option than one of those real tour guide microphones - mainly because I was completely faking it. I honestly failed most of my history classes back in school.
I ended up creating a note on my phone with all the information on the different exhibits in the museum so I could seem like I knew what I was talking about. Thankfully, the Galaxy A6 rugged case is also quick to unlock - being facial recognition and fingerprint unlock compatible. In more than one case, I had to quickly Googled an answer when tour guests asked questions I didn’t know.
While I was monitoring the museum, other agents were tracking the museum employees out of work. Everything came to a head the day we got video evidence of one suspicious employee I had mentioned leaving the gallery of a known black-market antiques dealer.
An arrest was to be made as soon as the employee entered the museum. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it easy and instead tried to run for it. I was in the middle of leading a tour when it happened and ran to tackle him before he could get away.
We both hit the museum floor hard. The suspect was quickly handcuffed while bleeding from a broken nose. I was limping a bit myself after the fall.
Surprisingly, despite my Galaxy A6 holster case being clipped to my belt, my phone was undamaged. The Galaxy A6 heavy duty case is military grade standard drop tested and completely survived the fall to the floor.
Luckily, once in custody, the suspect decided it would be best to work with us rather than against us. In exchange for a lighter sentence, he told us where he was hiding all the unsold artifacts and they were quickly returned to the museum.
