As a senior-level agent, I enjoy a few perks every now and then. Case in point: for my latest mission, I traveled to Machu Picchu, one of the most incredible wonders of the world. For weeks, I spent my afternoons hiking and taking in the unbelievable views. That’s not to say I wasn’t on the job, though – in fact, I was working undercover as a tour guide.
My mission, in short, was to track down Lars X, a mysterious crime lord who has (allegedly) been hiding out in the Peruvian countryside for the last few years. The bosses at HQ had a feeling that he was lurking somewhere around Machu Picchu, and it was my job to find him.
As luck would have it, the mission didn’t take long. On my third week of tour guiding, I spotted an unusually dressed-up tourist in my group: three-piece suit, sunglasses, and an obviously fake mustache. I kept my eye on him as I answered questions about Incan history.
At the end of the tour, the strange tourist approached me, stretching out his hand as though he was going to give me a tip. I was mid-conversation with another tour group member, so I barely registered the danger as he placed his hand on my shoulder and pushed me ever so gently, then strolled on by, not even pausing to see the effect. It was a subtle but well-executed move: I stumbled, caught myself, then stumbled again, tumbling down the ancient stairs and just barely escaping a perilous slide down the side of the cliff.
I breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that I had gotten out of harm’s way. There was no doubt in my mind that I had just come face to face with Lars X. Now I just needed to call HQ and give them the update. But wait… where was my phone?
For a moment, I panicked as I searched all around the spot where I’d fallen, but the panic faded fast: thanks to my Covert case from Ghostek, my phone was completely unharmed. Thanks to the slim case’s powerful drop protection, my phone didn’t even suffer so much as a scratch, despite the dangerous fall down several stories of ancient stairs.
Relieved (and feeling proud of myself for picking out such solid gear), I called HQ and gave them the update. “Congratulations, Agent,” said the voice on the other line. “Thank you for your excellent work. We can now reveal the location of your next field placement: the Swiss Alps.”
Another day, another mountain to climb. Thankfully, I can always rely on my Covert case from Ghostek to keep my phone sturdy and secure – even in the most perilous circumstances.
