On a recent mission, I was assigned to covertly watch and protect the son of a very well-known world leader. We had intel that a terrorist group was going to possibly attempt to kidnap the boy.
From the family’s security team I learned the boy would sneak out most nights to meet up with friends at the local skate park. Since I’m one of the younger agents at the bureau, and could potentially pass as an older teen or college student, I got the assignment. I was basically just supposed to hang out at the skate park and discreetly keep an eye on the kid.
I couldn’t pack most of my typical gear since I didn’t want to be spotted by the kid as a security detail. If I was, he’d probably take off and it was important we kept an eye on him. With that in mind, I just grabbed my phone - the Google Pixel 3a XL - and popped it into a protective COVERT3 phone case.
The premium Google Pixel 3a XL Case comes with 3 colors to choose from - clear, smoke, and rose. I figured the smoke color looked the most “skater” but honestly, I felt a little out of my element. It’s been many years since I have been at a skatepark, let alone on a skateboard.
Things went well for the first half hour or so. The kid showed up as anticipated and I kept a close eye on him while I pretended to be playing games on my Google Pixel 3a XL.
Then the unexpected happened. Someone in the group of teens suddenly declared that they were having a competition. Everyone had to show off their best trick and they’d all vote on a winner.
I figured I could play it cool and hang back. No such luck. Next thing I knew, I was being dragged up and told to show them what I could do. Well, needless to say, I showed them just how skilled I was by immediately falling off my board and flat on my face.
I was sure I heard a crunch and thought “Great, not only have I made a fool of myself, I’ve also just broken my Google Pixel 3a XL.” Thankfully though, while my face was scratched up, the ultra-thin premium COVERT3 case’s scratch resistant clear back meant my phone was scratch-free.
Trying to play it cool, I laughed off the fall and said, “At least my phone is ok. My parents would have killed me if I broke it.” A few of the teens came over to see and were very impressed with the case. I showed off the case’s reinforced shock absorbing corners and the raised bezel for extra screen protection.
Having done a good job distracting a few people from my epic fall, I grabbed my Google Pixel 3a XL and headed over to a bench. The non-slip diamond grip on the case came in handy now as I limped across the skate park.
Well, that was embarrassing but at least I hadn’t blown my cover. I used the case’s fingerprint unlock compatible feature to unlock my Google Pixel 3a XL and send a quick update text to headquarters. I left out the part about me falling flat on my face.
Thankfully, at that point the kid decided to head home. I plugged my headphones into my Google Pixel 3a XL - all buttons and ports on the phone are easily accessible with the COVERT 3 case - and called headquarters. I reported that the kid was back at home and that I was heading home myself. I needed an ice pack and was in the mood for a strong drink!
