An important part of undercover work as a secret agent is carefully working with informants. With the right informants, you can gather intelligence that would have taken months in a matter of days.
That being said, there are a lot of risks when working with informants. You have to worry about the informant being a double agent - working both sides. You also have to be careful to protect your informant and his or her identity. If informants you’ve worked with in the past are discovered and killed, no one will ever want to work with you in the future.
One great way to work with an informant while also protecting them from being seen or connected with you is via a series of intermediate connections. Basically, information is not passed directly from the informant to the agent but rather to a chain of people - eventually reaching the agent.
I like setting up these informant “chains” using a phone - specifically an ultra slim LG K40 holster case. This way, information is still secure no matter how many people pass it along.
I use the IRON ARMOR2 LG K40 rugged case specifically because it is fully fingerprint unlock compatible. Only myself and my informant can actually unlock the phone. It also helps that all buttons and ports are easily accessible. This allows data, photos, and audio from the informant to be easily and quickly uploaded to the phone.
As an example of an informant chain, a phone might pass from the informant to a local merchant, a fisherman, and a taxi driver before making its way to me. All the intermediate people are only aware of their part in the process - who they get the LG K40 holster case from and who they need to pass it along to. Only I know the full chain of people. That way, if anyone is caught or followed, they can’t endanger the informant or expose me.
As the phone is passed from the informant to all the various people along the chain, it is important that it is well protected from damage.
With the LG K40 tough case, the phone can withstand drops from up to 2 meters. This is thanks to the rugged dual layer construction. The shockproof case has both a hybrid thermoplastic inner skin and an outer durable polycarbonate frame with kickstand.
The phone needs to occasionally be dropped, kicked, or even thrown as it is passed along. The LG K40 holster case is luckily military grade standard drop tested and can survive all this. Even the screen is well protected with a tempered glass screen protector and a raised bezel for extra screen protection.
We use the holster with swivel belt clip included with the LG K40 heavy duty case to make transfers easier when possible. With the holster, one person in the chain can quickly pass along the phone to another person without being detected. They simply cross paths in a busy market or street, unclip the phone from one holster, and discreetly clip it onto the other person’s belt.
While I use the case for secret agent work, it’s actually a great case for civilian life too. It comes in 3 colors to choose from - blue, black, and rose. It is also designed to work as a LG K12+ holster case or as a LG Harmony 3 holster case for the newest model of the phone.
