Samsung Galaxy S25 Rumours & Leaks

January 2025 is the month that we should finally see Samsung's latest addition to their range of flagship phones: the Galaxy S25.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 is expected to be previewed at the Unpacked Event, which is held twice per year to give tech enthusiasts an insight into the company's newest launches. The upcoming January event should also unveil Samsung's VR headset, the Android XR, as well as potential new Galaxy Ring sizes and the One UI7 beta program.

The S24 launch focused around Samsung's exciting new Galaxy AI features, from Live Translate to Circle to Search. As the first Galaxy phones were introduced 15 years ago this year, some big upgrades are predicted this time around.

The closer we get to the hotly anticipated February 5th launch date, the more potential leaks that emerge about the device's key features, design, and software. Here's what we know so far about the new Samsung Galaxy S25 series to help you decide whether to invest.

Ahead of its official announcement this year, let's take a look at everything we already know surrounding the Galaxy S25's rumoured technical specifications:

Design

The design of the S25 is likely to be brought closer in line with the iPhone 16 Pro – particularly the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. The device is rumoured to have rounder corners and flatter edges that make it easier and more comfortable to hold in the palm of your hand.

The screen size may also increase from 6.2 inches to 6.36 inches. This means that the size of the device itself is likely to be larger to accommodate the thinner bezels.

While the S25 base and Plus keep the same strong armour aluminium frame, the Ultra model may see an exclusive upgrade to a more robust, yet lighter titanium frame.

Some of the rumoured new colours for the Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus include:

  • Midnight Black
  • Sparkling Green
  • Sparkling Blue
  • Silver Shadow
  • Moon Night Blue

Following previous models in the series, the S25 Ultra should have its own set of colourways, including:

  • Titanium Black
  • Titanium Grey
  • Titanium Blue
  • Titanium Silver Blue
  • Titanium White Silver
  • Titanium Jet Black
  • Titanium Jade Green
  • Titanium Pink Gold

Performance

One of the biggest and most exciting rumours to emerge since Samsung launched Galaxy AI last year is the potential speed increase that may come with the S25. This is thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, Gen 4, Qualcomm's latest chipset.

The upgraded processor delivers a 44% performance upgrade, marking a significant improvement from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Other rumours assume Samsung may instead use Exynos chips, such as the Exynos 2500, since Snapdragon's chip appeared only in the Galaxy S24 Ultra. However, it's more likely that Samsung will go with the 8 Elite for all three models this time.

Another huge potential performance improvement comes from the increase of RAM (Random Access Memory) from 8 GB on the S24 to 12 GB. This could facilitate smoother scrolling and better AI processing, which would come in especially handy if Samsung further updates its Galaxy AI features.

Battery Life

There have been plenty of long-standing rumours that Samsung may start using stacked batteries. This battery type offers a higher power density without an increase in size, making it much more efficient. However, no recent leak suggests that these will feature in the S25 series.

Instead, all three devices are likely to keep the same battery size as previous models, with 4000 mAh for the S25, 4900 mAh for the S25 Plus, and 5000 mAh for the S25 Ultra.

An additional benefit of the new Snapdragon chipset is the central processing unit's (CPU) improved power efficiency. The graphics processing unit (GPU) is also expected to consume 40% less power, resulting in a longer battery life, without a battery size upgrade.

The S25 series may also support Qi2 magnetic wireless charging. This is Samsung's alternative to Apple's MagSafe, which uses magnetic rings to offer secure and faster charging speeds up to 15W. These rings also support other accessories, such as car mounts, power banks, and detachable wallets.

Camera Specs

The camera setup of the Samsung Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus is rumoured to be staying the same as the S24.

The older model currently rivals the iPhone 16, featuring a 200 MP Main Camera, a 50 MP Telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom, and an AI-powered Space Zoom. However, the S25 Ultra is where we're likely to see real improvements.

This includes an upgraded Main Camera and an Ultrawide Camera with a 50 MP sensor to improve light capture for brighter images. A new Telephoto lens with easy adjustment between zoom levels is a rumour that’s surfaced from multiple leaks. Others suggest that this lens may be ditched altogether, leaving a triple-lens setup.

Software

The entire Samsung Galaxy S25 series is confirmed to be operating on Android's One UI 7 system, which was announced in October 2024.

Alongside this software update is the anticipation of new Galaxy AI features, which are likely to be announced at the next Unpacked event. Samsung's venture into the world of artificial intelligence began with the S24, like Generative Edit and Instant Slow-mo.

These new features include AI-powered camera improvements supported by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, such as an on-device video object eraser.

Launch Prices

The last few generations have seen a price increase only for the Ultra model. However, this trend isn't expected to continue for the Galaxy S25.

The new Snapdragon 8 Elite chip is expected to push manufacturing costs up by around 20% for all models, resulting in the following potential price hikes:

  • Base Mode: S24: $1,399/ S25: $1,460
  • Plus: S24: $1,699/ S25: $1,760
  • Ultra: S24:$2,199/ S25: $2,260

Looking Ahead to the Galaxy S25 Launch

While many of these leaks are currently unconfirmed, with the Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for January 22nd, it won't be long until we know exactly what to expect from the S25 series.

From new AI features to an improved Ultra camera setup, these Galaxy S25 rumours promise big improvements as the launch date quickly approaches.
