The Basics: Galaxy S21 vs iPhone 12

So you’re thinking about switching to team iPhone, or you’re thinking about switching to team Android, or you’re just thinking about upgrading. You’ve come to the right place. We’re going to break down the most important areas of both phones to help you decide which one is for you. Although they have many similarities, they have a lot of differences.

DESIGN

The Galaxy S21 has a back exterior made of plastic that looks like glass. It’s matte finish gives it a more premium look.
The iPhone 12 has a back exterior made of glass so it feels and looks very premium.
The Galaxy S21 is 6 x 2.8 x 0.31 inches, while the iPhone 12 is 5.78 x 2.82 x 0.29 inches. The iPhone is a tad shorter, slimmer, lighter, and a bit wider. 
The iPhone comes in colors red, green, blue, black and white. The Galaxy S21 comes in colors Phantom Violet, Phantom Pink, Phantom White and Phantom Gray.
Both phones are water and dust resistant.

CAMERA

The iPhone 12 has two back camera lenses. One lens is 12MP with an f /1.6 and the other is an ultra-wide lens of 12MP and an f /2.4. The front camera is 10MP with an f /2.2.
The Galaxy S21 has three back camera lenses. The main camera is 12MP with an f /1.8, the ultra-wide lens is 12MP with an f stop of 2.2 and the telephoto lens is 64MP with an f /2.0. F/ in a camera means the amount of light it can let in. The smaller the number, the more light. The front camera is 10MP with an f /2.2.
The Galaxy S21 has amazing zoom capability, before and after you’ve taken a photo. Quality is crisp and clear. Both phones manage very well in low light settings. 

DISPLAY

Both screens on the Galaxy S12 and iPhone 12 are very high quality. The Galaxy S12 6.2 inch 1080 x 2400 Dynamic AMOLED 2x display. The iPhone 12 has a 6.1 inch 1170 x 2532 Super Retina XDR OLED screen. The Galaxy S12 has a 120Hz refresh rate and the iPhone has a 60Hz refresh rate. The refresh rate is the speed at which your screen changes with scrolling and clicking. A larger refresh rate is actually better for the eyes.
Although the Galaxy S21 has a tad bigger screen than the iPhone 12, a notable difference in the larger refresh rate on the Galaxy S21. The 120Hz refresh rate on the Galaxy S21 makes scrolling and clicking feel very smooth.

BATTERY

Both the Galaxy S12 and iPhone charge up very quickly and on  average you should get a day's worth of battery life. The Galaxy S12 has a bigger battery than the iPhone, but if you’re using the 120Hz refresh rate, the bigger battery doesn’t last as long as you’d hope. You can set your phone to the 60Hz refresh rate to salvage battery life.
One difference between the charging systems is that the Galaxy S12 offers wireless powershare, which allows you to use other Galaxy S21s to charge your phone.
Both phones have wireless charging capabilities. 

SUM IT UP

Both phones have a lot of power and speed and capability. Though, the Galaxy S21 does have an additional camera, a larger screen, larger battery, and more storage. The iPhone 12 does have a glass back which gives it a more expensive and premium look than the Galaxy S21.
Both phones are pretty awesome. Carefully review their similarities and differences to see which is the one for you. Though, you won’t be disappointed whichever direction you go.
